Jukebox Thursdays – Moving with Motown

Thursday 19 January, 6:00 am

The Soda Factory are proud to be known for a music haven – and are over the moon to announce our Moving with Motown Madness on Thursday January 19th

That’s right, you’ve heard correct through the grapevine. We’ve cherry picked a selection of local, live talent for an evening paying homage to musical greats, and this time you’re getting the Motown treatment! Let THE TEMPTATIONS of the night take over you. Their Ain’t No Mountain High Enough that will keep us from getting to you. Celebrating the most dancefloor-shakin’ era in musical history, get ready for some Dancin In The Street as we deliver back-to-back Motown hits.

Motown Records was founded in 1959 by Berry Gordon Jnr with nothing but an $800 loan. The name, a portmanteau of motor and town was also a nickname for Detroit. Within a few years, they were selling more singles and releasing more hits than any other record company. By the mid-60s, that bright, bouncy Motown Sound captured the U.S. listening public and had started making major inroads overseas. In 1966, 22 Motown singles reached the Top 20 of the Pop charts, with three reaching No. 1 and, quite remarkably, three-quarters of all Motown releases landing someplace on the charts was a giant testament to the cutting edge role it had assumed in pop music.

The Soda stage will be providing Motown soul and disco hits from 5pm to very late! Join the boogy at 16 Wentworth Ave, Surry Hills for live music all night with Motown inspired drinks to make sure you don’t go thirsty
